Two
UK deadlines have already passed for the safe braking woodworking
machines with a final mandatory deadline in 2008!
“It
is an essential requirement for woodworking machinery to stop within
a controlled time period if there is a risk of contact in the run
down mode, (as specified by PUWER 98 regulation 15)”
“The
Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) paragraphs 130-135 specify the
timetable by which safe stopping devices must be fitted to existing
woodworking equipment.”
No
later than 5th December 2003
– Circular Saw Benches, Powered
& Hand Fed Cross Cut Saws, Single & Double End Tenoning
Machines & Combination Machines with circular and/or tenoning
attachment.
No later than 5th December 2005
– Narrow Band Saws, Resaws, Vertical Spindle Moulders (unless
fitted with a manual or foot brake), Hand Fed Routing Machines,
Planing/Thicknessing Machines & Surface Planing Machines.
No later than 5th December 2008
– Any other machine for which the Risk Assessment shows braking
to be necessary!
